gconftool –recursive-unset /apps/panel
rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel
pkill gnome-panel

This simplifies my tutorial by a lot. I had my viewers going into the home folder unhiding the folders and deleting them. Then logging in and out. But this seems to be much simpler. Thanks for the tip.
